M. K. Čiurlionis homestead (M. K. Čiurlionis St. 35)

Outdoor exhibition “The Čiurlionis Family Palette”

An outdoor exhibition at the historic Čiurlionis homestead in Druskininkai invites you to get acquainted with the large Čiurlionis family – the parents, brothers and sisters of the most famous Lithuanian composer and artist. M. K. Čiurlionis was the eldest child in the family, who had a great influence on all family members, inspired and fascinated with his talent and personal qualities, was an authority and an example. He loved everyone without exception, but M. K. Čiurlionis had a unique connection, hobbies and activities with each of them.

The homestead, where the M. K. Čiurlionis House-Museum currently operates, was the first and only private residence of Adelė and Konstantinas Čiurlionis, which they purchased around 1896. At that time, M. K. Čiurlionis was already in his twenties. He studied at the Warsaw Institute of Music, but always returned for long summer holidays, spending several weeks or longer in the winter and during the Easter period. Erudite, cosmopolitan M. K. Čiurlionis was a village child at heart, longing for his family and the nature of Druskininkai. Long returns to his homeland played a decisive role in his creativity, and his understanding parents had also equipped the best workshop he had in his life at home. Many of M. K. Čiurlionis’ famous paintings and musical works were created or begun in a small room with a window. Family members were observers of this creative process, and sometimes participants.

The exhibition will be open until 2026. November 1.
